Mrs. Catherine Smith died at 3:20 p.m.
Wednesday at her home, No. 12 Argyle apartments, after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Smith was born April 20, 1848, at Belfast,
Ireland, the daughter of the late Daniel and Sarah McKeown. She came to
America when a young girl and was married to James Smith June 13, 1869, in
Geneva, Wis. After a year the couple moved to Maquoketa and several years
later to Davenport. Her husband preceded her in death May 21, 1923.
Surviving are eight daughters, Mrs. J.J. Shaw, Kansas
City, Mo.; Mrs. George Picard, Chicago; Mrs. L.C. Johnson, Mrs. Jennie
Dougherty, Mrs. John L. Miclot, Miss Frances, Miss Ida and Miss Anna Smith,
all of Davenport.
She was a member of the Altar and Rosary society of
the Sacred Heart cathedral.
The body was removed to the Fred N. Ruhl mortuary and
will be taken home this evening from where the funeral will be held Saturday
at 8:30 a.m. with services at 9 o'clock at St. Anthony's church. Burial will
be made in St. Marguerite's cemetery. |
