Family Chronicles
A One-Name Study
Descendants of William Joynt
1. WILLIAM1 JOYNT was born Bet. 1800 - 1810 in Ireland. Notes for WILLIAM JOYNT: According to a letter written by Paul Joynt 03/06/1977 to Michael Joynt: The father of Christopher and Jack was born in Belfast or near there and when he was about 9 years old his father died. It was a large family and the boy was bound out to his uncle in Dublin. The Belfast Boy was Protestant and the Dublin Uncle was Catholic (his name was Joynt) and that was when their own religion was started. When the boy was about 16 he ran away, stowed on a boat that was bound for Nova Scotia. He landed in Halifax and stayed there. Another story has it that William was sent to his mother's brother-in-law who was Catholic and lived in Southern Ireland. He ran away to Dublin to stow away on a ship. "After arriving in Nova Scotia he ran for miles and hid in a forest for days in fear that he might be found and returned to his Uncle in Ireland." Children of WILLIAM JOYNT are: 2. i. CHRISTOPHER JONES2 JOYNT, b. November 14, 1830, Halifax, Nova Scotia; d. November 04, 1917, Sterling, Illinois. ii. CYRUS JOYNT. iii. JACK JOYNT. As far as we know he went back to Masachusetts to live and at that time he was about 74 or 75. We don't think he was ever married.

ONe Sunday before he and "Ric" (Mary Dorothea Frederica Dreshler) were married, he and a bunch of the boys were "Whooping it up" in one of Dixon's saloons. The party got pretty rough and someone called the police. The boys got wind of the police call and they all took off in different directions. Grandpa (William Bateman Joynt) headed for the Dixon jailhouse. The reason being that "Ric" was the cook down there and besides who would think of looking in the jailhouse for anyone who had abused the law. Anyhow, it was almost dinner time.
