Generation No. 1
1. HEINRICH1 WESTENDORF He married GERTRUD SANDKER.
Notes for HEINRICH WESTENDORF:
The highest hill (Windberg, just north outside >Soegel town) is 239.5 feet above sea level. There are woody geest ridges (geest is the high and dry land of the North German coastal region), sand and dune regions, wide marshy meadow valleys and upland moors, so rather unsuited for agriculture Eisten is at 7 km (4.3 miles) south of Soegel. In 1823 there were 23 households at Eisten, 133 inhabitants.
Heinrich & Gertrude married elsewhere other than Eisten, possibly Ostenwalde or Wertle.
Heinrich prob. had a brother, Herman, who was a teacher at Ostenwalde, and a sister, Anna Margaretha.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the way, I looked Westendorf up in the Status Animarum 1749, which is a transcription of a church census. It mentions a Henric. Westendorff, catholic, age 20, who was a Knecht (farm hand) in the village of Spahn, just north of Sögel. He was working for Lucas Frese and his wife Columbina.
The only other Westendorf was Henricus Westendorpff (age 50, owned his own farm) from Ostenwalde, which is just to the east of Sögel. Henricus had a wife Elisabetha (40) and two children Joes Henricus 6 and Theodorus 3.
Sögel is a stone's throw from Teglingen (near Meppen) where my Otten relatives originated and from Dörpen, where my Frerkes relatives originated. Both settled in Davenport on Sturdevant St.

Subject: Westendorf Info
I have some obits and other information on Westendorf family such as obits of Everett, Eugene Sr. and Eugene, Jr. Also, obit for August Clement. My mother was Marjorie Westendorf (married to Eugene, Sr.) The clippings are from her things. I got your web site url from Josie Westendorf Banks who lives in Las Cruces, NM.
Beverly Westendorf (widow of Eugene, Jr, my brother) gave me a letter she had received in Jan and was unable to answer. It was a request from a descendent of Gertrude Westendorf Hiebing. I printed your web site info and mailed it to her in Montrose, IA. She is 83 and was very happy to get the history. I also have newspaper clipping of your husband's grandparents wedding (William & Celesta Peterson).
Appreciate your web site very much. Let me know if you would like any of these things. We are at 4125 Washington Street, Davenport (319-391-9037). Our Email is by1@netexpress.net.

Wedding at St. Joseph's Church
The marriage of Miss Tillie W. Westendorf, the daughter of Mrs. Katherine Westendorf of 1437 South Street, to John J Haase of Davenport, took place Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock at St. Joseph's church, Rev. John Scherf performing the ceremony and celebrating the nuptial mass.
The children of St. Joseph’s school sang the hymns of the mass, one of the Sisters presiding at the organ.
The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Margaret W and George Haase, brother of the groom, was best man. The bride was dressed in a gown of white voile over white satin, the skirt draped in overskirt effect and the bodice trimmed in lace. Her flowers were bride’s roses in shower arrangement, and he long veil was caught with orange blossoms. The bridesmaid was in white voile over yellow silk and she wore a yellow satin bando with yellow roses in her hair and carried a boquet of yellow tea roses.
A wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride on South st. following the ceremony, about 40 guests being entertained. Here all was in the bridal colors and the table was done in yellow and white with lillies and roses. Mr. and Mrs. Haase left this morning for Denver, Colorado Springs, and other points west. They will [be] home after July 1 at 1424 South st. The groom is a machinist employed by the Milwaukee Railroad at Nahant.
