1906 in front of the Henry Claussen home, 2019 W. 5th Street, Davenport. The two adults are Henry and Elizabeth Claussen. The three children are their daughters, Edna, Leona and Norma. The car is Henry Claussen's cadillac. Submitted by Paul Frost |
The inscription on the photo of Art Kurth and Leona Claussen reads "Our first date on excursion steamer Helen Blair on Mississippi, Decoration day 1916." The inscription on the group photo says "My first date with Art - Decoration Day 1916 on Helen Blair excursion." In the group, Art is on the left, Leona on the right and the identities of the others is not known. Art and Leona married in 1922. Submitted by Paul Frost |
Bulsterbaum candy store. The people in the photo are unidentified. The date of the photo is also unknown, but my guess is around the turn of the 20th century. The Times 20th Century Directory lists 3 Bulsterbaums, (i) Eliz., widow of Herman, confectr., (ii) Gustav, finisher and (iii) Miss Hulda H. All are listed at 908 W. 3rd Street. Johannes (John) Eggers and Wilhelmine Amalia (Amelia) Stoertenbecker. It is believed to be their wedding photo, which would date it at 21 December 1865. They were married in Scott County (probably in Davenport). Submitted by Paul Frost |
My g-grandparents Jacob Frost and Elsa Marie Jeppesen Frost. Their son (my grandfather) John D. Frost, is on the horse in the background. According to an inscription by my grandfather on the back of the photo, it was taken in their garden around 1911. The location would have been their home on Rockingham Road (between Clark and Rolfe streets) in Davenport. Submitted by Paul Frost |
Ad for Henry Claussen, plumber, from a German language newspaper. I don't know the paper, but I believe it would have been from Davenport around the turn of the 20th century. Submitted by Paul Frost |
My g-grandfather Henry C. Claussen in his plumber shop at 816 W. 3rd Street, Davenport. I can't read a date on the calendar in the background but I have an almanac that shows November 1 was a Sunday in 1924 (as well as 1884 and 1954). Since Henry was born in 1872, I believe the picture was taken in 1924. Submitted by Paul Frost |
