1. JOHANN HEINRICH² SCHULTZ (JOHN FREDERICK¹) was born January 13, 1838 in Schleswig, Holstein, Ger, and died November 20, 1918 in Pottawattamie Co., IA. He married MARIA DOROTHY HANSEN January 13, 1859, daughter of DUDLEY HANSEN and SOPHIA NACHTIJAL. She was born December 14, 1830 in Schleswig, Germany., and died December 26, 1917.

He received his education in the common schools where he learned the carpentry trade.

When he first came to Scott Co. he earned $10/mo working in the fields. He was also a carpenter, a trade he learned in school in Germany, where he worked in a machine shop in Davenport where he lived. In 1860 he rented 190 acres of land 12 miles from Davenport and began farming for the next 10 years in Scott Co., IA. In 1870 he moved to Chariton Co., MO where he invested in 160 acres of raw prairie land, living there until 1880. He sold the land when the crops failed and moved to Mills Co. IA for two years after which he purchased 200 acres in section 15, Lewis Township, Pottawattamie Co, IA. He raises Hereford cattle and hogs.

Johann is politically a Democrat. He belongs to the German Lutheran Church.
